So it’s like the title says. I created this community to kinda fill the void from the reddit shutdown, and have no real idea on how to moderate a community like this, especially if it ends up huge like the one on Reddit.

Seeing as I have little moderation experience, if anyone is interested in moderating for this community just lmk and I’ll see about setting you up.

TL;DR - Created a potentially huge amount of work for myself that I’m super unfamiliar with.

I’m just gonna keep posting the same obnoxious shitpost, so you’ll always know you can just safely delete any posts from me. I want to make your life easy :)

I just did the same thing for Best Updates (BORU replacement) only to find out that Lemmy post bodies can’t be longer than 10k characters (BORU posts are frequently over that). I’m not sure how best to proceed :/

Oh wow, I didn’t know of this limitation.

We could open an issue on GitHub proposing a change. In the meantime, you could add to your sidebar suggesting users paste text larger than 10k into Pastebin or another equivalent website and create the post as a link, rather than filling the body.

Ideally, apps like Jerboa could have built in parsers to load text from Pastebin, images from Imgur, and so on, in elegant integrated ways which could mitigate limitations with Lemmy itself.

Talk to ruud the developer of lemmy.world would be my guess. Or the developer of whatever instance your using. And btw can you link the community?

I did the same, then was looking around for any mod tools, but I don’t really see any? Or any guides? Anywhere I should look for this? And can you give someone else mod rights ('cause I’d kind of like to, I just didn’t want the place to look like a ghost town)

A lot of the bots and things that made reddit much easier to mod just haven’t been developed yet for lemmy. Thosw bots are what makes losing the API bad in the first place. Someone needs to essentially develop an automod equivalent to moderate comments. If I have free time I plan to start working on something.

I would look at the rules of the sub on reddit, most of them exist for a reason. If you have questions, ask a mod, or someone else on lemmy/reddit. I mod on another reddit and lemmy account of mine.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions.

LOL. I’ve got three already, but if you want to add me to the team, I’ll keep an eye out for you, mostly because my cardinal rule in life is “don’t be a dick”.

Hopefully the pottery community doesnt get out of control… because we just did that there too. I’m sure it’ll work out for everyone lmao. I feel like it’ll take a long time for people to really populate these new spaces while we learn things anyway. So excited for all the new things happening!
