António Guterres says treaty will endure but urges US to remain amid reports of Republican plan to withdraw from the climate negotiating framework entirely

The world needs the US to remain in the international climate process to avoid a “crippled” Paris agreement, the UN secretary general has warned, amid fears that Donald Trump would take the country out of the accord for a second time.

António Guterres said the landmark 2015 agreement to limit global heating would endure if the US withdrew once again, but compared the prospective departure to losing a limb or organ.

“The Paris agreement can survive, but people sometimes can lose important organs or lose the legs and survive. But we don’t want a crippled Paris agreement. We want a real Paris agreement,” the UN secretary general said.

If the Republican candidate wins, his administration could withdraw the US from the UN climate negotiating framework entirely, according to reports. If he does so, it could require Senate approval for the US to rejoin.

Not to mention, the Paris climate accord was way too little too late and we’re all still falling way short of even those goals! We’re producing more co2 than ever before. Why the fuck are these people lying to themselves and everyone else? WE ARE FAILING MISERABLY, DISASTROUSLY TO FIHT CLIMATE CHANGE.

Who are these articles for? All those MAGAs who feel strongly about climate change, or Dems who would have voted for Trump if he’s commit to GHG reduction?

Drill baby drill. And in the mean time, import all the crude you can, refine it and sell. The shareholders must be paid!

Yeah… I just refuse to use the /s … so I revel in the down votes instead.

I have no clue how people can think the US becomes rich from drill baby drill. It’s private companies that drill and make the money, while subsidised to the hilt by the US government. Any non oil executive or oil shareholder that repeats the slogan u ironically is a moron!

There is no such thing as bad publicity. People must really want that psycho back…

“People need to know how bad he is” Because it worked so well before… I’m sure THIS article about him will convince someone this time…

There is no such thing as bad publicity.

I am going to paste what I wrote in another thread this morning about Meg Whitman because this is just not true.

she totally inundated California. Every other radio and TV ad was about her. There were posters every place the campaign could think to stick them whether or not it was legal. By election day, everyone was so sick of her that she did not even come close.

First of all, that doesn’t prove that Trump won because of that.

Secondly, gloating about a fascist getting into office because it showed I was wrong does not make you a good person.

Hopefully there won’t be people like you in Britain. Enjoy seeing your fellow citizens get marched into concentration camps and take solace that you got to be happy about someone being wrong on the internet.

I never claimed to be a good person. That clearly isn’t important anymore.

Ew, Britain. Almost as disgusting as america.

“Almost as disgusting” as the country where the incoming president is going to march my queer daughter into a conversion therapy camp?

Is that really what you’re going to go with? Because I want to make sure that’s what you are claiming right now.

You can do better than that…

If you really want to put words in my mouth, why not try: “so you want to kill my daughter?!”

Please answer the question. Is that or is that not what you are claiming? It is a yes/no question. Unless you are a troll, the thing I am now trying to determine.

I can only speak for myself, but as someone who before 2020 didn’t care at all to get involved in politics (aka voting), hearing about this literal meme causing real problems for real people all the damn time certainly did get me to vote.

Twice, now. When previously I couldn’t be bothered.

This man is so terrible that he’s gotten me to vote just to do my part in making sure he stays the fuck out of office.
